FRESCO MURAL PAINTINGS IN THE CHURCH OF CELLERS
YEAR: 1995
TECHNIQUE: fresco painting on the wall.
AREA: 120 m.
BUILDING: Church of Saint John the Baptist of Cellers.
VILLAGE/REGION: Cellers (Pallars Jussà)
This group of frescos deals with religious symbols taken from elements of the popular culture of the Pyrenees. With this symbolism, Minguell shows how wall paintings become a collective allegory and they can bring cultural values to the places where it operates, without the need of too many explanatory references and it opens the door to a balanced sum of art and comprehensive symbols.
This work of art was done using the deep colours of the pigments and line graphics.

FRESCO MURAL PAINTINGS IN THE CHURCH OF L’ESPLUGA CALBA
YEAR: 1996
TECHNIQUE: Fresco painting on the wall.
AREA: 300 m.
BUILDING: Holy Ghost Chapel in the church of l’Espluga Calba.
TOWN/REGION: L’Espluga Calba (Garrigues)
To paint the mural in l’Espluga Calba I was proposed the theme: The Beatitudes and it demanded a long process of studying in depth the symbols which represent them.
After the study of the symbolic tradition, I decided to create an extensive scenography: in the wall at the back of the nave, a hill (location of the Sermon on the Mount, Preaching of the Beatitudes) is the starting point of a wide landscape which spreads over the lateral walls. Some perpendicular paths symbolize the Beatitudes. The spectator of the pictures will become the protagonist of this scene of symbols.
The altar follows the iconographic tradition of the Revelations with the representation of the New Jerusalem, materialized in the village of l’Espluga Calba.
The ceiling connect both themes with symbols of the inexpressible, light and fire, paths and water fountain.
The light and the colours of the landscape of les Garrigues are the resources which form all the composition. |

FRESCO MURAL PAINTINGS IN THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE OF THE LLEIDA UNIVERSITY
YEAR: 1998
TECHNIQUE: Fresco painting on the wall.
AREA: 90 m.
BUILDING: Faculty of Medicine of the Lleida University
CITY/REGION: Lleida (Segrià)
The theme goes round the history of medicine and it has allowed to establish some relationships between art and science. The ceiling is divided into four parts which correspond to the medieval conception of the four elements: earth, water, fire and air. At the same time it reflects the commemoration of the 700 anniversary of the University of Lleida, since the interpretation of the four elements is done from the “Regiment de preservació a epidímia e pestilència e mortaldats”, which is the first scientific record in Catalan. His author is Jaume d’Agramunt, master of Medicine in Lleida in the fourteenth century.
The vertical walls represent a series of images linked to the history of medicine: magic and
mystery of medicine, the classical world, Black Death, anatomical theatre and the direct observation of the human body, the hands of the doctors, war as a chaos, the scientific medicine, the ecological unbalance, the doctor and the patient, and medicine and thought.

FRESCO MURAL PAINTINGS IN THE FOYER OF ATENEU THEATRE IN TÀRREGA
YEAR: 1999
TECHNIQUE: fresco painting on the wall.
AREA: 180 m
BUILDING: Foyer of Ateneu theatre in Tàrrega.
CITY/REGION: Tàrrega (l’Urgell)
The theme of this group of frescoes is the THEATRE. The ceiling insists on an argument it has defended before: the settling of the arts, the memory that tradition and history connects with the present time and with creativity. This idea is illustrated with some ladders which relate consciousness with unconsciousness and the inside with the outside.
The lateral walls, situated one opposite the other, and with a similar shape, offer a dialogue between the audience and the scene. The wall dedicated to the audience is an endless display of eyes, eager looks, which substitute the physical presence of the figures. The eyes symbolize the audience, with a rhythmic harmony accompanied by seats outlined through their silhouettes, which make up for their sinuosity. Opposite there is the scene, a large opening of light where two passions meet, the one of the artist, depicted like a mirror of reality or inner light, and the one of creation. The last passion appears transfigured into an evolutionary cloud which condenses the different faces of art.
The first wall is the most visible when you go into the foyer, and the audience sees it in front of them when they get in. Minguell has depicted the muses, all of them symbolized through white footprints, again without the presence of figures, and they become more ethereal and mythological. The opposite wall, with a smaller area because of the framework of the windproof door, represents the city of Tàrrega and the idea of the street theatre, in which every square of public space receives a scenography or an eager seat of performance.

YEAR:2000
TECHNIQUE: False fresco
AREA: 21 m2
BUILDING: Library in Montcada Street
CITY/REGION: Barcelona (Barcelonès)
It corresponds to a particular library. I interpret the subject of the thought from a pictorial landscape where the visual effects of transparency and contrast of the colours tighten the surface of the vault. It is a game between surface and breakage of the surface, between great composition and small detail.

The nucleus of the town is the central reason for the mural. The town is born surroundings to the rock and it projects towards the fields that surround it. The town I have represented it with light, with a simple scheme that it gathers the basic layout of the streets. The church, the old silos, and the vestibules are small details that are identified clearly. On the feet of the town they are the skittles, symbol of the celebration, the game, the joy of the children. Also it appears a mud wall that is being constructed like symbol of the birth of the town from the own earth.

These frescos were realized in the period of two years, July, 2004 and July, 2005 respectively, in an alone morning day in the context of the summer courses of the Universitat de Lleida and in view of the audience. The first studies of the murals were corresponding to the search of a few forms linked to the Romanesque painting, where the geometry of the architecture had continuity in the composition of the painting. On the other hand, a few symbolic elements were looked for: landscape, man, nature ... finishing finally in an interpretation of four elements, very present in the medieval period.
A great circle of

Interpretation of the topic of the Resurrection across the contemporary criteria that caracterize his work, at the time that they suppose a new artistic contribution to the splendid baroque classical architecture of the temple, work of the Carmelite Fra Josep de la Concepció (17th. century). The murals occupe the left wall of the cruise and the arch, 180 m2 both a total height of 20,7 meters fos9,5 meters of width.
In the wall, we contemplate a scene that corresponds to the moment of the tart of the empty sepulchre. The light that emerges comes out towards a spring landscape, moment of the renaissance of the nature. The great slab of the sepulchre knocked down in the soil and the shroud are the signs of the Resurrection. We can see also the police officers of the entry of the sepulchre, as disconcerted spectators, and also the pitchers of the unguents, which symbolize the womwn who went to the sepulchre to anoint late Jesus, and that werw discoverers of his absence. At the foot of the wall, an olive tree alludes to the garden of Gethsemane, Biblical stage where Jesus was caught.
The wall completes his top arch interpreting two biblical figures associated with the death and Resurrection: Jonas and the marine monster and the horses of fire of Elias.

NATIVITAS.FRESCO MURAL PAINTINGS AT THE CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA DE L'ALBA IN TARREGA.
Technique: Fresco mural painting on the wall
Year: 2007
Building: Parish Church of Santa Maria de l'Alba
City: Tàrrega (Lleida)
Dimensions: 180m2
The paintings occupe wall and arches on the right side of the cruiser to the left of the Altar.
The set Nativitas follows a compositional symmetry in relation to Resurrectio. In the first study the artist stands at the ends of the arc that covers the central scene, a few references to the prophet Isaiah with the embers that purify their lips and St. John the Baptist, which cries out in the desert. In the central part of the arch, the star and the angel announcer. The front wall has as a backdrop a large winter landscape of Urgell mounded, roads, trees and animals, all threatened by the intervention of man.
He places the birth places in a stay integrated into the landscape, with the figures that appear in the iconographic tradition, but fleeing the representation of worship to seek a more intimate scene: the mother of the child, wrapped in a white cloth, is a symmetrical to the shroud of Resurrection. The father, dejected, holds a stcik in flower as an allusion to the Jese tree. In the background of the scene find the ox and mule. As representation of the Epiphany, the manifestation of God, a reference to the magicians of East and the offerings of gold (royalty), incense (divinity), and myrrh (death as redemption).
